GODS WILL TO HEAL -
Spoken Instruction
Receiving Healing through God's Spoken Instruction
When we are referring to the “Spoken Instruction” that is when the receiver was given
certain instructions to follow and during their obedience or after their obedience their
healing was manifested. We are referring to doing something beyond speaking when we are
considering examples for “Spoken Instruction”. There exists combinations of methods but
in this lesson we are only considering methods that reveal some type of “spoken instruction” by
the Lord or a minister of God and then healing following those obeyed instructions.
Old Testament
Deuteronomy 7:11-15
11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee. KJV
In these verses we notice that the healing of the body was conditional based upon the Children of Israel keeping the covenant of God. Today we are in the New Covenant and that covenant is based upon the obedience of One, Jesus Christ that means we have obtained our healing through Christ.
Numbers 12:1-15
10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again. KJV
Notice in this example disobedience to God by disrespecting (complaining) about the man of God (Moses) brought leprosy upon Miriam. Leprosy represents a slow death showing us that speaking about authority figures in the earth will start eating away at our body like leprosy until we are consumed off the earth. The good news is when something is working at a slow pace, like leprosy, we can humble ourselves pray to God for mercy and He will heal us and forgive us of our sin. Notice that Aaron asked Moses to forgive them, Miriam did not. Thus, Miriam was given leprosy because the Lord Himself revealed her sin and she still repented not. This brought the Lord great displeasure as shown in verse 14. If it where not for the mercies of Aaron and Moses she may have continued a leper. However, we do see that when the instructions were followed the healing proceeded.
1 Samuel 16:14-23
22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.
23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. KJV
In this example the harp played with David’s hand is like a type of musical worship to God which we can see does bring a healing effects upon King Saul. This shows us that an atmosphere of praise and/or spiritual worship is therapeutic. Music does have an effect on the soul, good pure holy music ministers the Presence of God and unclean music will invite ungodliness. This type of healing enhancement may be used for depression or oppression but today all evil spirits should be cast out in the Name of Jesus by Spoken Commandment first (which is another sermon). After that musical enhancement may help keep your mind (soul) on the goodness of God which is always a good ideal. We notice this was only a temporary solution because Saul did not totally repent to get his heart right with God. If any person desires to continue in sin they will continue to have problems sustaining complete deliverance. The scripture states in Isaiah 48:22, “There is no peace unto the wicked.” In dealing with an evil spirit the Christian must close the door to the enemy first for remaining deliverance in the Name of Jesus.
2 Kings 5:10-14
10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.
14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. KJV
In this example we can see that Naaman was healed after he did exactly what the man of God said. If anything less than full obedience by Naaman was performed it may of resulted in him still being a leper. People need to realize partial obedience is also partial disobedience which has a negative effect on the result because a double-minded man is unstable and they shall not receive anything from God according to James 1: 6-8
2 Kings 20:1-11
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. KJV
Notice in this example that Hezekiah was told by the prophet Isaiah that God would heal him, however the prophet also told him to apply a lump of figs to the boil. This represents that there can be certain circumstances that would lead you to take some medicine even though He promised you complete healing. Medicine may provide some temporary relief but your foundation for healing should be based upon the Stripes of Jesus. This could have been necessary for Hezekiah because he was not a strong man of faith at this time as recorded in verse 8. The main thing to always remember is to hold fast to your confession of faith without wavering and believe God for your healing (that you were healed) and take your medicine when you have prayed over it and have God’s peace about taking it. Some medicines may help your situation but the problem is a few medicines have been proven to have adverse side effects so wisdom and caution must always be employed when taking medicine. Pray about everything and give God thanks for healing you always in Jesus Name to expedite the Healing Power of God on your behalf. Amen!
New Testament
Most popular single method used by Jesus and His Church
Matthew 9:1-8 Jesus instructs a paralyzed man to “Arise, take up his bed, and go unto his house and the man obeys Jesus instructions.
Mark 2:1-12 This man was carried by four and let down through the roof of a house in Capernaum.
Luke 5:17-26 It was noted that the power of the Lord was present to heal
Notice in this example the four friends showed faith to carry the man to Jesus but the man had to show faith to obey the words of Jesus. This shows us that someone else’s faith can only carry us so far then we must be willing to trust God’s Word for ourselves. In this example we learn that the Lord may ask you to do something that seems impossible however you must be willing to do it expecting His grace to enable you to carry out the task. Notice Jesus could have just said, “arise” and that would have been a definite improvement. However, when the Lord said, “take your bed to your house” He desired for the man to test his healing in the everyday affairs of life. Thus, it could not be denied later when this person was no longer in the present of Jesus. Healing is not only meant for the public meeting (church) but also for the home (your person house).
Matthew 12:9-13 Jesus instructs a man with a withered hand to stretch forth his hand and when he did it was restored whole like the other.
Mark 3:1-5 Mark gives only the highlights of this healing
Luke 6:6-10 Luke tells us that Jesus also asked the man to, “Rise up, and stand forth in the midst” before He told the man to stretch forth his hand.
Which means that Jesus brought the man to His full attention, assessed the situation then explained His authority (taught on God’s power delegated to man) to let all present understand that this power is not solely for the Lord on High but used with the authority of man upon the earth. If the ones present did not believe His message Jesus gave them a demonstration on the man with the withered hand. We too must realize that this work should be done by men, by not attributing this healing to God, but rather a man anointed by God and given power from God to heal on this earth.
Luke 17:11-19 Jesus instructs ten lepers to, “Go show themselves unto the priests”. The ten obeyed Jesus and they were healed as they went.
This is the only recording of this type of healing in the Gospels. Notice the lepers asked Jesus to have mercy upon them. Looking for God’s mercy is the same thing we would say for looking for God’s Grace. In essence we are saying that we don’t deserve God healing because of our good works, but solely the Stripes of Jesus merit our healing. They took the initiative to call upon the Jesus and then Jesus responded to their cry for help. In this case Jesus did not lay hands upon them He only spoke instructions to energize their faith to engage the power of God to work on their behalf. Sometimes people only need instructions on how to access the power of God and they will obey to manifest God’s Will (His Word) in their life.
John 5:1-15 Jesus instructs an impotent (lacking power or ability, extremely weak) man which had an infirmity thirty eight years to, “Rise, take up his bed, and walk”. Immediately the man was made whole, took up his bed, and walked.
This is the only recording of this type of healing in the Gospels. Notice that Jesus asked the question, “Will you be made whole?” first. Then after Jesus heard the man’s response Jesus gave him instructions basically stating to stop depending upon other people to help you be healed and stop waiting for circumstances to favor your condition. We must be willing to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.-Philippians 2:12
John 11:1-15 and 38-44 Jesus instructs Lazarus to, “Come forth” and although Lazarus was four days dead he arose and came forth bound hand and foot in grave clothes.
This is the only recording of this type of healing (deliverance) in the Gospels. This was possibly one of Jesus greatest miracles because of the duration of time that had elapsed. This also shows us an outer limit on raising someone from the dead meaning if someone has been dead for more than four days you should not attempt to raise them up because we have no scripture of such a healing being performed in the Holy Bible. It will already take a sizeable amount of faith (revelation) to believe you can raise someone from the dead even after a short time. Therefore, you will need to base your faith upon God’s Word strictly without the doubt of having no biblical example. Use four days and below as a scriptural foundation to raise someone from the dead. Notice Jesus had to raise His Voice because He wanted all those present to hear and His voice had to reach Lazarus to impart the power of God to raise him up. Jesus had permission from the family members to raise Lazarus up please do not attempt to do this outside of the families permission especially those in authority of the estate of the one who is passed on.
Acts 9:32-35 The Apostle Peter instructs Aeneas to, “Arise, and make his bed” and Aeneas immediately arose.
Notice Peter also added the statement to Aeneas that, “Jesus Christ makes you whole:” This example shows us that the power of God is released through your words and your understanding of how the healing ministry works. Here again we see Aeneas was instructed to do something he could not do if he still believed he was paralyzed. We notice also that the Name of Jesus Christ was used in this healing.
Acts 14:8-10 The Apostle Paul instructs an impotent man in his feet (extremely weak, immobile) to, “Stand upright on his feet”. The man obeys Paul and leaps and walks.
Notice the Apostle Paul did not use the Name of Jesus, but Paul perceived (knew) that the man had faith to be healed. Thus, we know that the man had been exposed to the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the man believed that message. Verse 7 confirms the fact that the Gospel was preached first then signs and wonders confirmed God’s Word according to Mark 16:20.
Notice that “Spoken Instruction” in the New Testament favors cases dealing with paralysis (palsy), withered hand (possibly severe arthritis, deformation, shrunken fingers), leprosy (spoken word also used with leprosy in Matthew 8:1-4, Mark 1:40-45, and Luke 5:12-14), death of an individual believer, impotent in feet (paralyzed or extremely weak in leg region including leg muscles and joints). Notice that the length of time did not seem to matter for examples excluding death. Caution when using “Spoken Instruction” please do not try to make something happen in your own strength or by the power of your hands, the examples we studied did not force the healing. We must not try to make a miracle, since Jesus is the Healer we listen to His specific instructions for that specific individual and speak that only. Remember the Lord Jesus is working with our words therefore leave the manifestation to God, not to mere men. As noted in the Old Testament Spoken Instruction may be used for a variety of healings just be certain you are hearing from God and obeying His Words. This method is not to be practiced indiscriminately but rather operated through the precise revelation of God’s Word and assuring witness of God’s Holy Spirit.
